Mike C. Zisa, a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office and Paul G. Monte, a partner in the firm’s New York office, will be speaking at the National Association of Surety Bond Producers 2016 Regions 1, 2 & 3 Annual meeting. Mr. Zisa and Mr. Monte will speak in a session on October 8, 2016 titled, “Joint Ventures in Construction”. The course will address the critical issues that surety bond producers must understand about joint ventures (JV) including: formation issues, types, JVs vs. teaming agreements, structure, ownership, capitalization, profits, management, equipment and manpower, subcontracting, defaults, withdrawal or dissolution, insurance and bonding, and dispute resolution. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: distinguish between a joint venture and a team agreement and determine which is better to use in a given situation; list issues that must be addressed before signing a joint venture agreement; recognize areas that might become a detriment to a joint venture agreement in the event of a project default and identify common problems that can arise in a joint venture agreement and determine which solution best addresses each problem.
