Frank M. Rapoport, a partner in the firm’s New York Office and head of the firm’s Public-Private Partnership practice group, authored a bylined article for Law360 entitled ‘The Sky’s the Limit for Public-Private Aerial Transit’ which published January 6, 2017.  The article discusses the future of urban transportation and the aerial transit systems now being explored to transport commuters and tourists in such urban locations as Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, Washington D.C. and San Diego, to name a few. The public-private partnership (P3) model is emerging as a favored way of delivering and maintaining these green and cost-efficient solutions to traffic congestion. The evolution of aerial tramway and gondola lift technology, its applications so far in the US to alleviate urban congestion, and how such a project can be delivered through a P3.  While typically used for ski resorts, aerial tramways have been deployed in the urban environment in recent times. The Roosevelt Island Tramway in New York City and the Portland (Oregon) Aerial Tram are examples where this technology has been successfully adapted for public transport purposes.
