Open Position: Litigation Paralegal – River Edge, NJ

Description

Peckar & Abramson, P.C., a prominent national law firm, is seeking a litigation paralegal to work in the firm’s New Jersey office with its construction and corporate law practice groups.  Our paralegals assist and support our attorneys with administrative tasks and legal research.  The candidate should demonstrate excellent organizational skills as well as strong written and oral communication, legal research and analytical ability.

Minimum Job Requirements:

-Associates Degree or higher in paralegal studies; law or a related field (foreign equivalent degree will be accepted);

-Three (3) years of construction law experience, including assisting attorneys with the negotiation and drafting of contracts and agreements for complex construction and infrastructure projects;

-Three (3) years of experience in public procurement;

-Three (3) years of experience working with multinational corporations, including registration of their presence, assisting with obtaining work visas and permits, and cross-border transactions;

-Three (3) years of experience of corporate law experience, including the drafting of corporate formation documents, compliance with local/regulatory laws and preparations for government audits;

-Three (3) years of experience assisting attorneys in construction-related alternative dispute resolution proceedings;

-Three (3) years of experience assisting attorneys with construction-related litigation;

-Three (3) years of experience providing legal services for large-scale construction and infrastructure projects with a value of $400,000,000 or more; and

-Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Excel

Job Responsibilities

-Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence and other documents for attorneys;

-Meeting with clients, attorneys and other professionals to talk about case details;

-Organizing and maintaining case files in paper and electronic filing systems;

-Electronically filing legal documents with state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey as well as alternative dispute resolution providers;

-Helping prepare for trials or arbitrations by organizing exhibits and other necessary documents;

-Investigating facts and case law to assist attorneys with the preparation of briefs, pleading and other legal documents;

-Drafting and serving legal subpoenas and other process documents;

-Researching public records to assist with fact development of litigation or arbitration matters;

-Researching and analyzing statutes, decisions, codes, regulations and legal scholarship to assist attorneys with the preparation of legal arguments;

-Assisting attorneys with collection and production of discovery, including electronically-stored information (“ESI”);

-Gathering formal statements from parties and witnesses for use in court or arbitration proceedings; and

-Assisting attorneys with voir dire, jury selection and witness preparation
