John D. Hanover is the managing partner of the Los Angeles office. He is an experienced trial lawyer who concentrates his practice in the areas of construction and real estate litigation. His client base is diverse and includes the representation of general contractors, subcontractors, developers, design professionals, construction managers, owners, financial institutions, and sureties. For nearly 20 years, Mr. Hanover has handled multimillion dollar disputes for his clients in court, arbitrations, and mediations, having acted as lead counsel in tens of jury and non-jury trials in court, and more than one hundred arbitrations and mediations. Mr. Hanover has developed a particular expertise in all areas of construction law and construction dispute resolution arising out of both private and public works and has demonstrated tremendous success in handling construction matters ranging from contract disputes, delay and interruption claims, and payment remedies to claims of defective work.

Mr. Hanover has obtained very favorable settlements and verdicts on behalf of his clients relating to the failure of an EIFS system, mold contamination, earthquake damage, delay and interruption damages, and water intrusion relating to projects such as the Haas Pavilion at the University of California at Berkeley, the Fine Arts Center at the University of California at Riverside, and the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mr. Hanover served as lead counsel in the reported cases of T&R Painting v. St. Paul Fire and Marine (1994) 23 Cal.App.4th 738, 29 Cal.Rptr.2d 199 and Topanga & Victory Partners v. Toghia (2002) 103 Cal.App.4th 775, 127 Cal.Rptr.2d 104. Each case settled important issues in California law and has been widely cited.

Mr. Hanover is licensed to practice law in California, Nevada, Colorado, and Tennessee. He is a member of the State Bar of California (Real Property Law Section), the State Bar of Nevada, the Los Angeles County Bar Association (Real Property Section, Construction Law Subsection), Clark County (Nevada) Bar Association, the Forum on the Construction Industry and the Construction Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, the Associated General Contractors of California, and the Urban Land Institute.

Mr. Hanover is the Immediate Past President of the Los Angeles Hillel Council, the incoming Chair of the Legal Division of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, and is a Fellow of the Wexner Heritage Foundation.

Mr. Hanover earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University, summa cum laude, and his Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
